$1.69

Best coupon deal so far since I started!

Aunt Millie's dinner rolls were BOGO at Meijer. I had 2 $0.50 coupons. Both of which were doubled. That means I got 2 packages for $1.69!

Hmmmmm MPerks

At first glance I thought MPerks from Meijer was God's gift to couponers. Today, I found a fatal flaw.  Meijer has, for the last few weeks, running 10% - 15% off general merchandise on certain days and only for a specific period of time.  Today, I got an MPerks notice via text message that said "save 10% on general merchandise good through 12/4".  Of course, I clipped it.  Being the smart woman that I am, I hacked into Ryan's MPerks account and clipped it for him too.  Got to the store, logged in to my MPerks account at the register and went about purchasing my items.

When I got home and took the time to scrutinize my receipt I noticed that there was no reflection of the 10% discount for the applicable items.  I quickly pulled up the MPerks webpage, logged in and sure enough the coupon was still there unused.  Logged into Ryan's account, coupon still there unused (it shouldn't have been used - I used my account this evening).  I then did what most concerned people would have done - read the fine print.  There were three items that I purchased that I expected to qualify on the discount (about $4 worth of savings).  I confirmed that all three items qualified, confirmed that the coupon did in fact read "valid THRU 12/4, then had Ryan read it to make sure too.

I drove back to Meijer, opened the coupon page on my phone AND IT WAS GONE! Logged into Ryan's account, GONE!  Read the add at the customer service desk and it says Friday - Sunday only (Sunday being 12/4).  The ladies at the customer service desk waited very patiently while I logged in and out of MPerks accounts on my phone but ultimately, I made the decision to return the $40 in merchandise out of principle!

I do believe the customer service representatives made a wise decision to offer me $5 in customer happiness credit toward my next visit instead of going through the return hassle 10 minutes before they were scheduled to clock out.

Two things I learned, no one at a Meijer store has any way to check your MPerks account!  They can't see anything.  While I think this is good for privacy, it's not good for the customer.  It will always end up in a situation like I had tonight, she said, she said.  Who's correct?  Have the staff been instructed to always take the customer's word?  I would hope not, that's not good for Meijer's business.  At the same time, they need to fix the bugs in the system.  I should have never been allowed to "clip" the coupon until tomorrow.  I should have never received a text message telling me that the coupon was available for me to clip.  Lastly, I think Meijer should implement a "used coupon" section on the MPerks website so that we can see which ones we use at each visit (I know this is on the receipt - but like tonight - it wasn't).  Or maybe a  "clipped but not available for immediate use".

In my opinion, it all goes down to the tech people behind this one.  I should have never been allowed to clip the coupon.  Someone in IT isn't have a good night because based on what I overheard, I wasn't the first person in tonight with this question!

Another Successful Day

Today was another successful savings day! We are hosting our first family Thanksgiving this year so we needed a few essentials. Most importantly, a roasting pan large enough to cook a turkey for 10 people. Our first stop was to Bed Bath and Beyond (just like Will Farrel). We bought a $30roasting pan in sale for $20. There is also a $10 rebate which brings the price down to $10. Add the $5 off coupon, we got the pan for $5.

Moving on to Meijers! This had all the makings to be a very expensive outing considering all the Thanksgiving feast items we needed. We ended up saving $60 with on sale items and coupons! What could have been well over $225 was only $177. Then i had a $40 gift card so we only ended up spending $130. That's very close to what we would have spent on a normal weekly shopping trip prior to starting to coupon. I think we'll call this an extremely successful day.

I've now saved almost $90 in three weeks!

My first shopping trip...

I did it! Armed with freshly cut coupons, I went to Meijer. I saved $39.33! I've decided that for purposes of saving I'm going to round up to the nearest whole dollar as my way of contributing a small bit of family sacrifice. That's $40! I've decided what I'm saving for as well ... A hot air balloon!

I scored some financial assistance from GD (my mom who is known in the family as Grandma Donna (or GD)). I need to get my receipt out for a full savings calculation tomorrow.

I might be addicted!!

Coupon Exercise

Today was a learning exercise.  I spent an hour going through online "clippable" coupons.  I found some good ones to use for sure.  I'm still not sure how the entire process of couponing works.  I know this is going to take some more research, more studying and just more clipping to see how I do.  I'm a learn as I go kind of person so that's all I can do for now.  I'm hoping to do some positive Christmas and grocery shopping this weekend.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

$100 in my pocket!

Today I took a very simple step to saving money. I filled out a rebate after purchasing a years supply of contact lenses. After purchasing the lenses with my Flexible Savings Account, and filling out the rebate stand to gain a lot. I'll try to find the math.

A New Beginning!

I'm embarking on a new journey of saving money!

And here's the deal everyone - it's pronounced Q-PON on this blog!  That's right, it's Q-PON.  There are no coo-pons here!  We won't just be q-poning, we'll be bargain shopping (that includes the clearance racks), we'll be doing rebates, and most importantly, we'll be doing everything we can to save some cash!

Today, I used started fresh by using a Groupon to order this year's Christmas Cards.  What do you think?  I got 40 cards at Shutterfly for $43 (that's half off).  In total, I got 65 cards for $52.19 and that includes shipping (which isn't cheap on Shutterfly).  Unfortunately, I didn't spend enough to get free shipping but I'll be working on some photobooks soon and will keep my eye out for a promo code!  Here's a look at the cards (by the way, by embedding this in the blog, I'll get a q-pon code for $10 off my next order!)
